You may notice your controller will display a warning regarding the compass. Luckily, the calibration process is quick and easy to complete out in the field.

Prerequisites:

  • DJI Phantom 4 RTK (P4R)
  • Open area away from electromagnetic interference

Before you start:

  • Do not calibrate your compass where there is strong magnetic interference.
For example, avoid electronic devices, magnetite, parking structures, and underground steel reinforcement.
  • Do not carry your phone/radio on your person while performing the calibration.

Instructions:

Move into an open area then follow the procedures below:

Quick Method:

  1. Turn on the drone and controller.
  2. Press the fly button so that you can see the cameras view.
  3. Locate the flight mode switch (P-A-F) on the left-hand side of the controller.
  4. Rapidly move the mode switch between P-F several times
  5. The compass calibration prompt should appear on the screen.

Normal Method:

  1. Turn on the drone and controller.
  2. Press the fly button so that you can see the cameras view.
  3. Tap the three white dots in the top right-hand corner to bring up the aircraft settings page.
  4. Scroll down and tap Advanced Settings.
  5. Tap on Sensors, then tap Calibrate Compass.

Follow the instructions to complete the calibration.

  1. Once the rear status lights have turned solid yellow, hold the craft horizontally and rotate it 360 degrees.
  2. Once the rear status lights have turned solid green, hold the craft vertically and rotate 360 degrees around the center axis.
  3. The status lights will flash green if the calibration has been completed successfully.

Troubleshooting:

If the status lights are flashing red the calibration has failed. Check that you don't have anything electronic or metallic nearby and start the process again.

If it is still failing, move to a different location.

Sometimes there may be a source of interference on site that will influence the compass during flight, it's best to avoid these areas when possible by either adjusting your flight plans or flying higher over the source of interference. To pause the mission change the Mode switch from P to F or vice versa.

I still can't do it!
