Why Can't I Upload PPK Data?

Here are some common reasons why you aren't able to upload PPK data into Propeller

You aren't using a compatible drone with Propeller AeroPoints

The Propeller PPK workflow can only be used with this specific combination of drone and ground control. AeroPoints are optimized to work with this workflow. You can upload data with high-accuracy geotags, but the PPK upload is a different workflow.

If you are using a compatible drone with AeroPoints but are still not able to upload data, it may be because your PPK subscription has lapsed. There is an annual PPK subscription fee, which, if expired, would prevent you from uploading a PPK survey. This subscription fee is included with your initial PPK purchase and must be renewed annually after the first year.

The camera's serial number can't be detected

For customers with an unlimited processing pack, all submissions for photogrammetry survey processing require a camera serial number in the uploaded files for the processing to proceed.
To resolve this, please select Propeller PPK as your correction method, or make sure your camera's serial number is included in your geotagged photos when uploading data for processing.

Alternatively, for geotagged Wingtra and Quantum, Use my drone photos can also be selected if it aligns with your use case. Ensure that the PPK files are added in the Files section for proper detection of the camera serial number.

Your AeroPoint survey does not line up with your drone flight

AeroPoints need to collect data for the duration of your drone flight. To ensure you are collecting data for the entire survey, please place and turn on your AeroPoints before you launch your drone and only collect or move them after your mission is complete and the drone has landed. Collect your AeroPoints in reverse order at least 10 minutes after you finish the mission.

After you have turned on and laid out your AeroPoint(s), we recommend you spend that 10-minute block double-checking your drone settings. The time after you finish the flight should be used to check over your drone and quickly validate your images in the Propeller uploader in case you need to refly.

There is a file issue

If you are missing either the .BIN or .MRK files (or both), you will not be able to successfully upload a PPK dataset.

Check your images' folder to ensure a PPKRAW.bin file and a Timestamp.MRK files are included. If these files are not there, please contact Propeller hardware support

Your dataset does not pass the uploader validations

Propeller has validations built into the uploader to ensure high-quality data for the model of your site. Ideally, all validations will pass and be marked with a green checkmark. Orange validations are just warnings, and the data can be uploaded. If a validation is red, you cannot upload your data. In this case, please contact your Propeller customer success representative.

The table below lists the validations that a PPK dataset must pass.

Your file collection Your drone Individual images PPK files
10 image minimum Drone camera recommended Compatible geotag Files have the required metadata
Same aspect ratio PPK drone is registered Aspect ratio Files must be unique
Camera course aligned   Motion blur
Single connected area   ISO
File name less than 255 characters
    Minimum 8 Megapixels

Please review our Flying 101 section for more information on these validations.

If you still cannot upload a PPK survey, please contact Propeller support by clicking on the support tab or contacting your customer success representative.
