How to Crop or Duplicate a Composite Survey

Survey data naturally becomes less accurate toward the edges, impacting overall data quality when merging multiple surveys. To ensure accuracy, it’s important to prioritize reliable data and avoid using lower-quality edge data over more precise existing data, even if the latter is older. The best way to achieve this is by trimming (or cropping) data outside the flight area, ensuring only high-quality information is retained.

Cropping a composite

From the SURVEY tab, launch the Survey Explorer. Click the three dots menu next to the survey you want to crop and choose Crop partial survey.

Draw a polygon boundary around the area you want to crop. Once finished, click SAVE.

You’ll notice the boundary will change once the crop has been applied. This is automatically saved into the original composite.

Duplicating a composite

The duplicate function allows you to create a copy of an existing composite survey while retaining all modifications, such as cropping and cleanup adjustments.

This feature is useful when you need to make additional modifications to a composite without altering the original dataset. For example, if you want to incorporate new earthworks or make further refinements, you can duplicate the existing composite and work on the copy.

When a composite is duplicated, all applied crops and cleanup adjustments from the original version are preserved, ensuring consistency while allowing for further customization.

From the SURVEY dropdown, click the three dots next to the composite you want to duplicate. Then click Duplicate.

Fill out the details in the Duplicate composite window and click CREATE.

The duplicated survey will retain any cropping applied to the original composition, ensuring consistency in the dataset. Any cleanup modifications made to the composite will also be carried over to the duplicated version.

Once duplicated, the composite functions like any other composite in the system. You can take measurements, include them in reports, and analyze it as needed.
