Use the Propeller mobile app to configure a custom Wi-Fi hotspot for your AeroPoints 2 devices when the default "propeller" network isn’t available on site.
AeroPoint compatibility
| ℹ️ Note: Custom hotspot configuration is only available for AeroPoints 2. AeroPoint 1 devices cannot use custom network credentials. |
AeroPoint 1 devices connect automatically to a Wi-Fi network named "propeller" with the password "propeller." When you press the power button on an AeroPoint 1 to finish recording, it enters Wi-Fi search mode (indicated by a blinking light) and searches for that network automatically. The network name and password cannot be changed on AeroPoint 1 devices.
For AeroPoints 2, follow the steps below to configure a custom hotspot.
Network credential limits
- Network name: 32 characters maximum
- Password: 8 characters minimum, 64 characters maximum
Setting up a custom hotspot
- Turn on your AeroPoint 2 devices.
- Open the Propeller mobile app on your phone or tablet
-
Use the side menu to enter the AeroPoints tab
-
Confirm that all powered-on AeroPoints appear as cards on the screen.
-
Tap the Network icon in the bottom-right corner of the app.
-
Enter the network name and password for the custom hotspot you want to use.
- Tap Next to apply the settings. The app will configure each AeroPoint in the list.
-
Configuration is complete when a checkmark appears next to each AeroPoint.
| ℹ️ Note: AeroPoints 2 only connect to 2.4GHz Wi-Fi networks. Make sure your hotspot is broadcasting on 2.4GHz, not 5GHz. |
Once configured, test the connection by running a ten-minute capture and upload with only the custom hotspot available (the default "propeller" network should not be in range during the test).
