Creating and Customizing Templates

Creating custom templates allows you to standardize the information fields, styling, and attributes associated with your measurements across different projects, saving you time and ensuring consistency.

What is a Measurement Template?

A measurement template is a pre-configured setup that defines the properties and appearance of a measurement feature (point, line, or polygon). This includes:

  • Information Fields: Customizable fields for adding specific data relevant to your measurement
  • Styling: Visual attributes such as color, line thickness, polygon fill, and associated icons.
  • Labeling (points only): How the measurement will be labeled on the map.

By creating and using templates, you can quickly apply consistent data collection standards and visual styles to your measurements without having to configure them individually each time.

Creating a Custom Measurement Template

Click on any measurement tools—Point, Line, or Polygon—in the toolbar.

Saving a measurement without creating a template

By default, your measurement will have a generic name. To give it a more descriptive name, click on the pencil icon next to the default name in the PROPERTIES panel and enter your desired name.

If you only need to use the customized settings for a single measurement and do not wish to save it as a permanent template, simply click the SAVE button in the PROPERTIES panel after customizing the information and style. The measurement will be saved with its specific attributes to the MEASURE tab alongside your other individual measurements.

Saving it as a custom template

To save your configured measurement as a reusable template, click on the dropdown menu within the PROPERTIES panel. From the options, select CREATE NEW TEMPLATE.

Provide a descriptive name for your new template in the dialog box that appears and click SAVE.

Editing an existing template

Click on the map to place a point, draw a line, or create a polygon. In the PROPERTIES panel, click the template dropdown menu and select the template you want to modify.

Modify the template's settings using the options in the PROPERTIES and STYLE sections. After making your modifications, click on the template dropdown menu again. You have two options for saving:

    • To overwrite the existing template: Select the SAVE option. This will update the original template with the changes you have made.
    • To save the changes as a new template: Select the CREATE NEW TEMPLATE option. This will prompt you to give the modified template a new name, leaving the original template unchanged.
