How to use 360 Walkthroughs in Propeller

360 walkthroughs let you capture a navigable, GPS-anchored ground-level video of your site using an Insta360 X5 camera and the Propeller Mobile app, then explore it directly on your high-precision 2D and 3D map.

ℹ️ Note: You must have a Field license with at least one seat to activate the Media tab for your organisation. You must have a walkthrough credit pack to capture and upload walkthroughs. Users with at least Inspect permission on the site can view walkthroughs.

Before you start

Before heading out, make sure you have:

  • An Insta360 X5 camera
  • The Propeller Mobile app installed on your phone
  • Sufficient camera battery and memory. The app alerts you on connect, but check beforehand to avoid delays on site.
  • Enough walkthrough credits, one is deducted per walkthrough on upload. Check your balance in licence settings.
  • Open sky visibility at your capture location. Indoor or obstructed areas reduce GPS accuracy.
ℹ️ Note: For iPhone only users, set location services for the Propeller Mobile app to Always before you start. Changing this mid-capture disconnects the Insta360.

Capture a walkthrough

  1. Open the Propeller Mobile app and navigate to your site.
  2. Tap the yellow plus (+) button, select the camera icon and click on Take photo to open the walkthrough capture screen.

  2. Once connected, a setup screen appears before capture begins. Review the recommended steps for a quality walkthrough, then tap Start capturing and begin walking the area.

ℹ️ Note: While capturing with the Insta360, your mobile screen displays the recording time, storage, and battery percentage of the device.
  1. Walk at a steady pace. Walkthrough capture is designed for walking speed — vehicle-speed capture is not supported.
  2. Frames are captured approximately every 2.5 metres. If you pause for 3 seconds, a manual frame is recorded at that exact location — useful for documenting a specific point of interest.
💡Tip: The app keeps the camera connection active while recording, even if the app goes to the background or your phone locks — you can safely pocket your phone mid-capture. If device memory runs low, the recording autocompletes automatically.
  1. When you have finished, tap Finish on your mobile screen.

Upload a walkthrough

  1. After finishing your capture, tap Save capture to phone to save the recording to your device.
  2. Once saved, you have two options:

    • Tap Disconnect and begin upload to disconnect from the camera and start uploading immediately.
    • Tap Stay connected to remain connected to the camera and upload later.

  3. Once you decide to upload, an Uploads & Processing page will appear with an upload progress bar. Stay on this page until the status changes from Uploading to Processing.
  4. Once processing is complete, the walkthrough will appear in the Media tab.

View a walkthrough on desktop

  1. Open your site in the Propeller web portal.
  2. Click the Media tab in the left sidebar.
  3. Select the walkthrough you want to explore. The path appears as an overlay on your 2D and 3D map.
  4. Click any point along the path to jump to the 360 view from that location.
  5. Use the on-screen arrows or drag the view to look around.
  6. Click the full screen button to hide the map and fill your entire screen with the walkthrough view.
  7. The blue dot on the map represents your location in the walkthrough. As you pan around, an outline follows the direction you're looking so you stay oriented.
