The compass is your drone’s navigation anchor. Calibrating it ensures your aircraft knows exactly where it is heading, which prevents flight errors and drift. You typically need to calibrate when moving to a new location (especially if you have traveled far) or if the drone warns you of magnetic interference.
This guide applies to drones using DJI Pilot 2, including:
DJI Matrice 300 / 350
DJI Mavic 3 Enterprise
Calibrating the compass is a routine calibration that is typically required when the drone changes from an indoor to an outdoor environment and vice versa.
Before you start
Find a clear zone: Do not calibrate near strong magnetic interference. Avoid parking structures, underground steel reinforcement (like concrete pads), and large metal objects.
Remove electronics: Keep keys, cell phones, and other electronics away from the drone during this process.
Go outside: Move to an open area outdoors for the best results.
Instructions
Power Up: Turn on your remote controller and aircraft.
Launch Flight View: From the home screen, tap Pilot and then select Manual Flight.
Open Settings: Tap the three dots (menu) in the top-right corner of the camera view.
Find Sensor Status: In the Flight Controller settings menu, scroll down and tap Sensor Status.
Start Calibration:
Tap the Compass tab on the right side.
Tap the Calibrate Compass button.
- Horizontal Rotation: A pop-up window will guide you. Pick up the drone and perform a 360° horizontal rotation as shown on the screen.
- Vertical Rotation: Once the first step is complete, the prompt will update. Point the drone’s nose downward and perform a 360° vertical rotation.
- Finish: When successful, a confirmation window will appear. Tap OK to finish.
