Freefly Astro: Disabling Stealth Mode for PPK

The Freefly Astro from the Blue UAS Cleared Drone List ships in Stealth Mode. Before your first flight, you must move the drone out of its restricted shipping state and configure the parameters to log GPS data to the external USB-C memory stick.

1. Enable Cloud Services

  1. Connect the Astro to your PC using a USB-C cable.

  2. Open a web browser and go to: https://10.41.1.1

  3. Log in and navigate to Settings.

  4. Toggle Enable Cloud Services to ON.

2. Enter AMC Advanced Mode

  1. Power on your Astro and the AMC (Astro Mission Control) controller.

  2. In the AMC app, look at the AMC icon (the triangles) in the top-left corner.

  3. Repeatedly tap the icon (about 6 times) until a popup appears, asking whether you would like to switch to Advanced Mode

  4. Select Yes to switch to Advanced Mode.

3. Reset to Defaults

  1. Tap the AMC icon again to open the menu.

  2. Go to Advanced > Parameters.

  3. Select Tools (top-right corner) and choose Reset to vehicle’s configuration defaults. This ensures you are starting from a clean slate.

4. Configure PPK Logging Parameters

  1. While still in the Parameters menu, update these two specific settings:

Parameter Action Purpose
SDLOG_NO_POS_DAT Set to Disabled Allows the drone to log position data to the external USB-C memory stick.
GPS_DUMP_COMM Set to RTCM output (PPK) Enables the communication dump required for PPK processing.
  1. Next, navigate to Camera Settings and set Image Storage to External USB.

5. Finalize and Test

  1. Power Cycle: Turn off both the drone and the remote controller, then turn them back on.

  2. Test Flight: Perform a test flight.

  3. Verify Files: Check the external USB-C memory stick. You should see:

    • 1x .obs file (The observation file)

    • 2x .json files (Metadata and timestamp files)
