How to Calibrate the IMU on the Phantom 4 RTK

If your controller displays an error message regarding the IMU calibration, follow these steps to calibrate the IMU. This is different from the compass calibration.

Prerequisites

  • DJI Phantom 4 RTK
  • Flat surface (e.g. indoors on a table)

Worth Noting:

  • Do not calibrate your IMU on an uneven surface as this will affect the calibration.
  • Do not have your propellers attached during this IMU calibration.

Instructions

  1. Power on your controller and drone (with the propellers detached) on a flat surface. Your drone should be standing upright.
  2. To open the drone settings tab, click on Fly from the home screen and then click on the three dots at the top right of the screen.
  3. Within the drone settings tab scroll down and click on Advanced Settings.
  4. Then tap on IMU and Compass Calibration and you should see the IMU Calibration option.
  5. Follow the on-screen instructions, which will prompt you to position and balance your drone in different angles while the IMU is being calibrated.

This IMU calibration process will require you to balance your drone in unusual positions, such as tilting it forward on its landing gear and two front arms or balancing it upside down.

Please be extra careful with your drone during this process. The drone will comfortably sit in each requested position.
