How to create a new site in Propeller

Creating a site is the first step in managing your project's data. A site acts as the digital container for your maps, designs, and measurements.

Create a new site

  1.  Log in to the Propeller Platform. From the homepage, click + CREATE NEW and select Site.

Name and locate your site

  1. Site Name: Enter a unique name for your project. This can be edited later in the site settings if the project name changes.

  2. Location: Type the address or coordinates in the search bar, or use the (<svg xmlns="http://www.w3.org/2000/svg" height="24px" viewBox="0 0 24 24" width="24px" fill="#626870"><path d="M0 0h24v24H0V0z" fill="none"/><path d="M17.27 6.73l-4.24 10.13-1.32-3.42-.32-.83-.82-.32-3.43-1.33 10.13-4.23M21 3L3 10.53v.98l6.84 2.65L12.48 21h.98L21 3z"/></svg>) button to find your current position.

  3. Boundary Definition: Zoom into your site on the map. The bounding box will turn from yellow to green once you are zoomed in enough to ensure high-resolution map processing.

Set the Coordinate Reference System (CRS)

Once your site is successfully created, a confirmation window will appear, presenting two main paths to get started.

Data Upload Quick Start or Survey Data.png

Quick start

Choose Quick Start for immediate measurements or media uploads. If you select this, you'll be automatically taken to your site map, ready to create measurements or upload media directly. This path also includes a core base map dataset workflow, providing a universal outline for managing and analyzing your site data within the Propeller Platform, even if you aren't using drone imagery immediately.

ℹ️ Note: When using the Quick Start path, the coordinate reference system (CRS) will automatically default to your site's location. You can easily change this at any time by clicking the CRS Button.

Import surveys, surfaces, or design files

This is your path if you're ready to bring in survey, surfaces, or design data. Your next step will be to accurately set the coordinate system that best fits your project's specific requirements.

You have two primary options for setting your Coordinate Reference System (CRS):

1. Published System (Grid)

When you select a Published System (Grid), your measurements will utilize projected coordinates. This approach is designed to maintain the accuracy of shapes and angles within your specific geographic area, making your data highly compatible with other systems and organizations using the same coordinate system.

To enable automatic processing and correction of your survey data without needing known points or RINEX files, select a Propeller Corrections Network-compatible CRS from this window. Click SHOW ALL SYSTEMS to view all available options.

2. Local System (Ground)

Choosing a Local System means your measurements, including orientation, elevations, and distances, will be directly referenced to your site's specific control points. This method is ideal for projects requiring the utmost accuracy of measurements within your immediate site coordinate system. It ensures that all data precisely reflects the real-world conditions defined by your established ground control.

Choose this option if your site operates on a specific local grid, and you have a Trimble .jxl or Topcon .gc3 file. These files contain the calibration parameters that define your local coordinate system, allowing Propeller to process data relative to your established site control accurately.

We will read the parameters from your file automatically and add the information to your site.
