How to Convert .LAS/.LAZ to .XYZ

Different GIS and 3D modeling platforms accept and produce certain file types, which means that to use multiple platforms, you'll need to know how to convert between them.

This article will walk you through converting a .LAS or.LAZ file to a .XYZ file so that you can move your data between platforms.

There are many ways to do this conversion, such as using las2DEM, but this article will use CloudCompare. Don't have it? Follow these instructions to install it.

Instructions

1. Launch CloudCompare.

2. In the Toolbar, navigate to File > Open > then import your .LAS/.LAZ file.

3. Once the data has been imported, export it again to the desired file type by navigating to File > Save.

4. From the Save as type drop-down menu, choose ASCII cloud (... *.xyz ...), give the file a name, and click Save.
